Bro Whitehead joined the Craft in Buckie, at Lodge Gordon No. 589 in 1954, and was passed and raised in the same year and became a Mark Master Mason.

In 1955 the family moved to Fort William, due to work commitments, and he then started attending the local lodges, becoming affiliated to Lodge Lochiel No 1200 and Lodge Fort William No 43 in 1959. In that year he became Secretary of 1200, he held that position for 8 years then he became Master of the Lodge. In 1956 he joined the Royal Arch Chapter No 413 and became 1st Principal in 1964.

He joined the Cryptic Council in 1957, and joined the KT's in 1965. During March 1989 he became a member of the 18th Degree, in March 1994 he became a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, and in March 1995 he became a member of the 30th Degree.

In the Royal Arch he was awarded Honorary Provincial Grand Scribe N in 1994 and in 1995 was awarded a jewel by Lodge Lochiel 1200 for Distinguished Service and in November of 1996 was awarded Honorary Grand Rank of Inner Guard of the Grand Lodge of Scotland.

At present (at 81 years old) he is still a member of Provincial Grand Lodge of Inverness-shire holding the position of Junior Deacon, and is still an active member in both Lodges.

Sadly PM Whitehead passed to the grand lodge above on Wed 8th Nov 2006 14 days before his 87th birthday
